Sharapova (July 13, 2013) -- Maria Sharapova has chosen eight-time Grand Slam champion Jimmy Connors as her new coach, the 26-year-old world No. 2 announced on her website.

Oddo: New Coach Coming at the Right Time for Sharapova

"I am happy to announce that Jimmy Connors will be my new coach," she said in the statement. "I have known Jimmy for many years and we briefly worked together in 2008 just before the Australian Open. I am really excited about our new partnership and looking forward to the upcoming tournaments."

Sharapova announced earlier this week that she would no longer be working with Thomas Hogstedt. Hogstedt guided Sharapova to the French Open title in 2012 after taking over coaching duties from Michael Joyce at the end of 2010.

Connors, who released his autobiography "The Outsider" in May, has been relatively quiet on the tennis front for several years. He most recently worked with Andy Roddick, guiding him to the 2006 US Open final shortly after his tenure with the last American to win a Grand Slam began.
