(July 9, 2010) Rafael Nadal makes his living as a tennis pro, but gets his kicks playing soccer. Now, the World No. 1 has an investment in his local soccer club.
Nadal has become a shareholder for his local club, Real Mallorca, the Spanish team announced.
"It's an honor to be able to help Real Mallorca, I will help in any way I can," Nadal said. "I am proud to be a part of this new project put together by Mallorca locals. I am very pleased to have (Michael) Laudrup as the new coach and as the image for the club."
It will be a Nadal family affair. Nadal's uncle, Miguel Angel Nadal, known as the Bull of Barcelona when he played for both Barcelona and the Spanish national squad, has been tabbed as the club's second in command to Laudrup.
Real Mallorca is struggling with debt of up to $104 million, according to Reuters, and are operating in voluntary administration.
An avid soccer enthusiast, Nadal has supported Real Madrid.
