Alize Cornet showed a flash of her old brilliance on Saturday at the Australian Open, but it takes more than that to beat the likes of Kim Clijsters.

Clijsters rallied to win a first-set tie-breaker and then took command of the match to grab a 7-6(3), 6-3 win and move on to the fourth round.

She'll face upstart Ekaterina Makarova, one of four unseeded players to reach the sweet 16. Committing six double faults and 41 unforced errors, Clijsters was still tenacious enough to win a match she didn't play particularly well in, largely thanks to her advantages on second serves and receiving points.

In the most well-played match of the night, Flavia Pennetta rallied to defeat No. 10 seed Shahar Peer, 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4.
