(April 11, 2011) Kim Clijsters might be out of the French Open after injuring her right ankle at her cousin’s wedding this past weekend. Her website said the injury would keep her out for at least four to six weeks. It said:

"At the wedding party of her cousin Tim, Kim injured her ankle severely. The consequences are rather dire. After a visit to the doctor, echo and NMR the diagnosis is a severe strain of both the medial and lateral ligaments of the right ankle and a torn ligaments, a torn capsule of the ankle joint, a hematoma and torn tendon sheath.Kim's ankle is now completely immobilised and she can not use her foot for a few days. Kim faces a recovery of at least four to six weeks. Since the French Open starts in literally six weeks, Kim's presence in Paris is very uncertain. In the meantime Kim has to continue working on her recovery of a shoulder and wrist injury."

Coming off two Slam titles in a row, Clijsters is a two-time runner-up at the French Open and, to top the ankle injury off, she is still dealing with her shoulder and wrist injury that pulled her out of the BNP Paribas Open and the upcoming Fed Cup semifinal.

The other unfortunate part is that Clijsters plans on leaving professional tennis soon to pursue a larger family. She said that she will likely be done after the 2012 Olympics.

Will she be following the footsteps of Serena Williams, who injured herself stepping on some glass after Wimbledon and is yet to return?
