Kvitova, Wozniacki, Li Reach Third Round as Jankovic Falls at French Open

Petra Kvitova - 2012 French Open(May 31st, 2012) No.4 seed Petra Kvitova became the first woman to reach the third round of the French Open as she defeated Urszula Radwanska in their match earlier today in Paris.

Kvitova took the first set in just 24 minutes and overwhelmed Radwanska as the Czech hit 30 winners in total to seal a 6-1, 6-3 victory in just over an hour.

Kvitova will next face Nina Bratchikova who beat Claire Feuerstein 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

No. 9 seed Caroline Wozniacki only needed to be consistent in her match against Jarmila Gajdosova as the Australian played a messy match, hitting 40 total unforced errors allowing the former No. 1 to win 6-1, 6-4 in just over an hour.

Last year's finalist and No.14 seed Francesca Schiavone overcame a ragged start in the first set against Tsvetana Pironkova. Schiavone hit 15 forehand errors in the first set but after breaking Pironkova's serve early in the second set, Schiavone found her game as she rallies to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Waiting for Schiavone will be American Varvara Lepchenko who fell behind 1-4 in the first set against No. 19 seed Jelena Jankovic before Lepchenko rallied to take the set in a tiebreak. Jankovic won the second set and both grinded it out in the final set before Lepchenko earned the first break of the set at 5-4. Lepchenko, helped by untimely errors from the Serb, served out the match 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the third round of a Major for the first time in her career and keep her hopes alive for making the U.S. Olympic team.

Other winners this morning included Li Na who had no trouble taking out France's Stephanie Foretz Gacon as the French Open champion won 6-0, 6-2. No. 22 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who needed three sets to defeat Hungary's Melinda Czink 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 while veteran Klara Zakopalova took a final break of serve in the third set to upset No. 16 seed Maria Kirilenko 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
