(October 14, 2011) On Friday at the Generali Ladies Linz tournament, top-seeded Petra Kvitova made it to her second semifinal since her Wimbledon win. Other top players joined her.

Kvitova defeated eighth seeded Daniela Hantuchova in 58 minutes, 6-2, 6-2. She only forfeited her serve once while breaking the Slovakian five of 10 attempts.

The Czech hit five aces and fought through a lot of deuce points. She improved her record to 51 wins to 13 losses in 2011 and could solidify herself as No. 4 in the year-end rankings.

She will face former no. 1 Jelena Jankovic in the semifinals for the first time in their careers.

Third seed Jelena Jankovic ousted Evgeniya Rodina of Russia 6-2, 6-4. She won 79 percent of her first serves but hit more defensive points winning 35 of 72 total service points, mainly attacking the second serve and broke her opponent four times.

No. 7 seed Dominika Cibulkova had a tough first set against Austrian Anastasia Rodionova but eventually won 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-1 by defending her serve better in the following sets. She ended up breaking Rodionova eight of 11 opportunities.

She leads her semfinal-opponent Lucie Safarova with a 2-0 lead in their head-to-head series but Safarova has made it to two hard-court finals this year while the Slovakian has not made it past a semifinal.

Safarova defeated qualifier Sorana Cirstea 7-5, 6-2 despite eight double faults. She won 70 of 127 total points.
