Simona Halep reached the quarterfinals of her third straight major with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan, while Sabine Lisicki outlasted Yaroslava Shvedova (also of Kazakhstan), 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, to reach Wimbledon’s last eight for the fifth straight time.

Halep, the first Romanian women to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals since 1981, and the second in history, needed only 57 minutes to take down the world No. 72.

Lisicki’s victory was marred by controversy, as the German took a medical timeout during a service game to have her neck and shoulder examined. She was down a break point at the time, and would return to win the next three points and the game.

The German failed to serve the match out after breaking for a 5-3 lead in the decider, but broke Shvedova’s serve on her third match point to book her quarterfinal spot.

Lisicki and Halep will meet for the fourth time in the quarterfinals. Halep owns a 2-1 lifetime advantage over the German.
