Ekaterina Makarova remained the highest seeded player left standing as she claimed her second career title at the PTT Pattaya Open in Pattaya City, Thailand.

But the No. 4 seed Makarova had to work hard for her victory as she faced off against big serving Karolina Pliskova in Sunday's finals. Pliskova had knocked out two seeded players including Sorana Cirstea en route to the final round.

Both women took care of their serve for the better part of the match. Makarova seized the only break point for either player late in the first set to take it 6-3.

The serving battle continued in the second set with Pliskova serving up 10 aces in total. Makarova herself saved all five break points against her.

The second set eventually ended up in a tiebreak with Pliskova holding two set points. Makarova held her ground though and eventually closed out the 6-3, 7-6(7) victory.

Pattaya City is now the second career WTA singles title for Makarova. Her first came at Eastbourne back in 2010.
