Ekaterina Makarova and Karolina Pliskova will contend for the title of the PTT Pattaya Open in Thailand.

With top two seeds Sabine Lisicki and Svetlana Kuznetsova withdrawing earlier in the week due to injuries, that opened up the draw for the remaining players. But Saturday's semifinals were anything but easy for those women left.

No. 4 seed Makarova took on Andrea Hlavackova in the first semi. Though Makarova claimed the first set 6-3, she found herself overwhelmed in the second.

Hlavackova, not facing a break point in the set, claimed it in convincing fashion 6-0.

But it was Makarova who fought off the lone break point against her in the final set and went on to close out the 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 win.

Though known primarily for playing doubles with her sister, Karolina Pliskova found herself in the singles semifinals. Earlier in the week, Pliskova knocked out No. 3 seed Sorana Cirstea in three sets.

The No. 66 ranked Pliskova faced a resurgent Julia Goerges, who despite once being a top 20 player, is now out of the top 100 currently.

Pliskova emerged the winner after a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win.

Makarova and Pliskova will now each aim for their second career singles title in Sunday's finals.
