(June 7, 2011) This Sunday's French Open final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal drew the highest TV rating since 1999, the last time an American was in the final.

According to NBC sports, Nadal’s 7-5, 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-1 victory against Federer earned a 2.6 rating and a 7 share. In 1999, Andre Agassi defeated Andrei Medvedev in a five-set thriller that drew a 4.0 and a 12 share, according to the Associated Press.

In Nielson ratings, a rating point is equivalent to the percentage of all television-equipped homes in the United States that tuned in for the program at any moment, and a share is the percentage of televisions in use that tuned in.

There are an estimated 115.9 million homes with at least one television. That means Sunday’s final drew an estimated 3,013,400 viewers.

The women’s final between China’s Li Na and Francesca Schiavone equaled last year’s number of viewers with a 1.7 rating and a 5 share.
