Monfils: Only Seed At Stockholm Open Thursday

(October 20, 2011) It was a sweep of the seeds on Thursday of the If Stockholm Open after three seeded players fell to not advance into the quarterfinals.
The only seed left was the first seed, Gael Monfils, who ousted young-Australian Bernard Tomic in a close battle at 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-4. Monfils hit a whooping 18 aces and won 69 percent of total-service points.
Tomic failed to break the Frenchmen eight of nine attempts while losing three of his serves. Monfils played strong considering being injured for some time.
He told the Associated Press, “It’s not easy to come back on tour after struggling with injuries, so to find the rhythm was a bit tough, but still I think I played a tough match and it was great for me today.”
World No. 73 Jarkko Nieminen upset third-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 6-4 in only 70 minutes. Despite winning more aces, Wawrinka couldn’t get past the Finish’s serve which her won 68 percent of the time.
For the next fall, World No. 70 Grigor Dimitrov defeated Juan Ignacio Chela, the No. 4 seed and has six career titles over his opponent, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. The 32-year-old struggled with the 20-year-old’s serve and aces.
David Nalbandian outplayed the seventh-seeded Ivan Dodig 6-1, 6-1. He won 78 prcent of his total service points and 28 of 49 total return points.
Tobias Kamke advanced to his second quarterfinal of 2011 6-3, 6-1, past Sebastian Rieschick in 58 minutes.
