Nike Celebrates Federer's 'No. 1' Record with Black and Gold Shoes

(July 15, 2012) -- Nike has released a limited-edition version of Roger Federer's Vapor 9 shoe to commemorate the Swiss athlete's record-breaking achievement of being the No. 1 player on the ATP Tour for 287 weeks.

Federer posted a teaser on his Facebook wall on Thursday, showing a picture of a black box with the numbers '287' in gold lettering. And in the status update, he wrote: "Nike Tennis sent me this today. Says don’t open until Monday... Any ideas of what’s inside?"

Today it was revealed that the box contained shoes; the black version of the Vapor 9 Tour shoe, with gold metallic accents and a '287' on the heel, will be available in a very limited number for pre-order at nikestore.com starting at 8 a.m. ET on Monday, July 16. Each pair will be numbered and will come with a certificate of authenticity signed by Roger himself.

Federer regained the No. 1 ranking after his defeat of Andy Murray in the finals of Wimbledon earlier this month.
