Cilic broke serve to start the match and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. But Murray broke back in what began a never-ending series of breaks between both men.

Finally, Murray managed to hold serve while up 5-4 and claimed the first set when Cilic netted a forehand.

Cilic, who hit 37 unforced errors in the match, managed to stay in touch with Murray despite the Scot opening up a 3-1 lead in the second set. Both men traded breaks again, but it was Murray who managed to earn a 5-2 lead. Murray eventually found himself broken serving for the match, but finally got over the line to secure a 6-4, 6-3 win.

"I think today was probably the best match for me," said Murray. "It was a tough, tough match. Second set especially was a lot of long, long games, tough points. Yeah, just managed to come through that. Obviously took a while to get to the finish line, but I thought I played a solid match, not too many errors and was tough in the important moments."

When asked if he missed his fellow "big four" compatriots Djokovic, Federer and Nadal, Murray replied, "To be honest, I played loads of tournaments with them and loads of tournaments without them. It doesn't really change the way you approach the event. You know, you go into most events, you know, trying to win them, but obviously if they aren't there, then, you know, you don't have to play against two or three of the best players that have played the game."

If Murray is able to claim the title this weekend, he will move up to No. 2 in the world. While he admits that it would be a great feat to return to his career best ranking, it's not something he's focusing on.

"I'd like to get to No. 2 this week. It would be nice, but, you know, I'd rather focus on trying to win my matches."

Gasquet Bests Berdych to Reach Semis

Though his opponent got the better of him a few weeks ago in Indian Wells, it was Richard Gasquet who turned the tables as he faced off against Tomas Berdych once again in the final men's quarterfinal.

Both men stayed even with each other early on in the first set with Gasquet fighting off two break points against him. That was really the only danger moment the Frenchman would face as Gasquet raised his level and broke Berdych for 4-3 after Berdych made a bad miss down break point.

Gasquet frustrated Berdych all night in their rallies by mixing up his pace and spin on each shot. He broke Berdych at love to secure the first set 6-3 and kept the pressure on the second set by ripping a crosscourt forehand passing shot to earn a 2-0 lead.

Berdych racked up 30 unforced errors on the night and could never get his big backcourt game going. Gasquet kept his cool and his game intact as he served out the 6-3, 6-3 match to reach his first ever semifinal in Miami.

Gasquet will now face Murray with the Scot leading their head to head 4-3.
