Peer Fights into Final over Paszek
By Robert Martin

(July 30, 2011) World No. 24 Shahar Peer needed three hours six minutes to book a spot in the final of the Citi Open, outlasting 20-year-old Tamira Paszek 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4. Peer will face the winner of American Irina Falconi and Russian Nadia Petrova in the final on Sunday where she will be attempting to win her first title since 2009.
A tight match throughout, Paszek actually won more points overall than her opponent from Israel, 102-100 in favor of the Austrian. Both players struggled on serve, being broken five times each in only 15 total opportunities.
The third set momentum was swung into Peer's favor by hitting 72 percent of her first serves compared to only 55 percent for Paszek. The 42nd-ranked player had trouble winning points on her second serve, losing eight of 14 and dropping the only break chance of the set.
Paszek was attempting to make her first final since September of last year, when she dropped only one set in eight matches to win in Quebec City. Peer has not reached a final since January of 2010, where he lost in the final to Alona Bondarenko in Hobart.
