(October 16, 2011) Petra Kvitova came to the finals of Generali Ladies Linz with a vengeance, beating Dominika Cibulkova in an easy 6-4, 6-1 match.
After winning her first Slam title at Wimbledon earlier this year, Kvitova went 5-5 in the next ten tournaments. But this title marks her fifth title of 2011, a career best for the No. 4-ranked Czech player.
After going 4-all in the first set of the match against Cibulkova, Kvitova won out eight of the next nine games. She said of the match, "[…T]he first set with Dominika was very close. I know how well she plays and I knew I had to play well to beat her. I played very well on the big points."
Kvitova came to the tournament without the assistance of her coach, David Kotyza. Kvitova said, "I came here alone. I just wanted to enjoy every match and get some practice on indoor courts - that's it."
She now goes on to the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Istanbul. "I'm going to go home and have one week of preparation, then I'm going to Istanbul on Saturday, " Kvitova said. "I'm really looking forward to my first Championships and going to Istanbul."
In doubles, Marina Erakovic and Elena Vesnina defeated the underdog team of Julia Goerges and Ana Groenfeld, 7-5, 6-1. This marks Erakovic's second doubles title of the year, having also garnered several accomplishments in this year's singles play.
