Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic fought past a tough opponent in three sets to win her second career WTA title at the Kia Korea Open in Seoul.

American Varvara Lepcehenko contended in her first ever career final on Sunday against the No. 2 seed Pliskova. Earlier in the week, No. 5 seed Lepechenko upset top seed and defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska.

Though Pliskova easily took the opening set, the second set proved tougher as it entered a tiebreak. Lepchenko seized the breaker to force a deciding set.

Pliskova rallied by surging out to a 4-0 lead in the final set. Not looking back Pliskova closed out the 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-2 win in just over two hours.

Having lost three earlier WTA finals this season, Pliskova can now enjoy her second career title. Her first was in Kuala Lumpur last year.
