(August 5, 2010) Agnieszka Radwanska moved one win closer to her second straight semifinal, dissecting Dinara Safina, 6-1, 6-3, to advanced to the Mercury Insurance Open quarterfinals at La Costa Spa and Resort.
The fourth-seeded Radwanska tormented Safina on her second serve, winning 13 of 17 points played on Safina's second serve and converting six of nine break-point chances.
Former World No. 1 Safina snapped a six-game losing streak on Monday, converting five of 12 break points in sweeping Alona Bondarenko, 6-1, 7-6(2) in the opening round. But Safina had no answers for Radwanska, who patiently probed the court with varied pace and depth to draw the Russian out of position.

Radwanska, who has won eight of her last 10 matches, is bidding to reach her second semifinal in as many weeks. Last Saturday, Radwanska lost to Maria Sharapova in the Stanford semifinals, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Radwanska will play Shahar Peer for a semifinal spot. The seventh-seeded Israeli defeated Yaroslava Shvedova, 7-5, 6-4, in one hour, 43 minutes.
The 17th-ranked Peer, who beat former World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic in the first round, has won three of four meetings with Radwanska, including a 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-2 in the Stuttgart round of 16 in May.
