(July 17, 2011) David Ferrer, fresh off a win against the US team at the Davis Cup, didn’t play badly against Robin Soderling. He was hitting the right shots and serving well.

But that didn’t matter, because in Bastad, at the SkiStar Swedish Open, Soderling dominated the afternoon. He won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

There is certainly something to be said for a home country advantage as the Swedish player made quick work of the Spaniard, capturing his fourth title in Bastad.

Soderling has played in the two previous finals, winning in 2009 against Juan Monaco, but lost last year against Nicolas Almagro. Ferrer, consequently, has only appeared in one final, 2007, where he captured the title against Almagro.

Soderling now has a 10-4 lifetime record against Ferrer and sits one ranking spot better at No. 5.
