Robin Soderling Out Of Shanghai With Mono
By Robert Martin

(September 24, 2011) Robin Soderling reported on Twitter that he will be unable to compete in the upcoming Shanghai Masters due to illness. Soderling has not played since winning in his home country in Bastad in July.
After compiling a 38-9 record in 2011, Soderling hit a bad stretch of luck, injuring his wrist and requiring him to miss the entire US Open Series after winning a small clay tune event in Sweden following Wimbledon. He arrived in New York hoping to play and even being seen on the practice courts, but withdrew before the event started.
Despite hoping to return in time for the Masters event in Shanghai, a Twitter post from Soderling said, “My mono is not completely cured yet and so I have to take another month off. Hope to be ready for Stockholm Open in the middle of October.” Soderling has won four titles this year, but one would have to think that qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals will be difficult for the towering Swede.
