(May 2, 2010) Rafael Nadal trampled David Ferrer, 7-5, 6-2, to collect his fifth Rome title in the last six years and continue his march toward Masters history.

The third-seeded Nadal captured his 17th career Masters shield, which ties Andre Agassi's record for most career Masters championships.

It was Nadal's second straight Masters 1000 title; he crushed compatriot Fernando Verdasco, 6-0, 6-1 to win his Open Era-record sixth Monte Carlo championship last month.

"I probably didn't play like in Monte Carlo," Nadal said. "I played well, but not at the same level as Monte Carlo, but I still won and that's important for me."
