High seeds Jelena Jankovic and Samantha Stosur skated through their first matches of the Sony Ericsson Open Monday, with neither Top 10 player challenged.

The same could not be said of seventh seed Na Li, who went down in a shocking defeat to Sweden’s Johanna Larsson, ranked 78th in the world, 7-5, 6-7(5), 7-6(5).

Li has struggled since reaching the finals of the Australian Open two months ago, and was broken eight times by the Swede, who herself defended 11 of 18 break points.

Stosur whipped China’s Jie Zheng, 6-2, 6-1, never even facing a break point while taking four from Zheng, needing just 58 minutes to advance to the third round.

"I played quite well. I don't think I hit the ball out of this world fantastic, but I did what I had to do," Stosur said. "Against a player like Zheng, you want to be able to do that from start to finish. She competes hard for every single point."

Jankovic defeated Monica Niculescu 6-3, 6-1 in 65 minutes, connecting on 30 of her 43 service points and winning five of six break points.
