Wozniacki & Top Seeds In For Gals, Peer Upset & Oudin Out

(March 24) It is mid-afternoon but there has already been upsets and victories as the top seeds of the WTA players join the second round at the Sony Ericsson Open after a bye. Tenth seed Shahar Peer was taken out in two sets by Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-2, 6-2 while first seed Caroline Wozniacki defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-2, 7-5.
"I'll do my best. We will have to see what my best is in Miami." So far so good for Caro, she said after her victory in Indian Wells, "But now I'm playing on the women's tour, I'm playing the biggest tournaments, and I'm winning them, a lot of tournaments. I mean, this is my 14th title, so I'm very happy. You know, it's completely different. But again, I'm just enjoying myself out there, and I think that it shows in my game."
She fell last year when she played retired player Justine Henin in Miami.
Meanwhile, Melanie Oudin was taken out by 29th seed Daniella Hantuchova, 6-1, 6-3 and 13th seed and No. 1 doubles player Flavia Pennetta fell to unseeded Czech Iveta Benesova who is 46 in the world. So far 4th seed Samantha Stosur, 6th seed Jelena Jankovic, 11th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, 21st seed Andrea Petkovic, and 32nd seed Klara Zakopalova all easily made it to the third round all in two sets.
