Seppi, Petrova Advance To Kremlin Cup Second Round

(October 17, 2011) Eighth-seeded Andreas Seppi of Italy outlasted Igor Andreev 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) to reach the second round of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, Russia Monday.

This is Seppi’s second consecutive win against Andreev, as he beat the Russian in Bucharest several weeks ago. It’s a reversal of a troubling trend for the Italian, as he’d lost
their last six matches before then.

The Italian will play the winner between Ukraine’s
Sergiy Stakhovsky and German qualifier Michael Berrer in the second round.

Kazakhstan’s
Mikhail Kukushkin beat Lukas Rosol 7-6 (5), 7-5, Igor Kunitsyn outlasted Alex Kuznetsov 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, Teymuraz Gabashvili defeated Karol Beck 6-2, 6-4, and Spain’s Pere Riba outplayed Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-2, 6-7 (1), 6-3.

In the women’s tournament,
Vera Dushevina upset seventh-seeded Roberta Vinci 7-6 (4), 6-4, Nadia Petrova beat Evgeniya Rodina 6-4, 7-6 (3), Kaia Kanepi defeated Sara Errani 6-0, 7-5, and Bojana Jovanovski routed Alona Bondarenko 6-3, 6-0.

Svetlana Kuznetsova
, Dmitry Tursunov and Alex Bogomolov Jr. will be in action tomorrow.
