Defending champion Serena Williams overcame herself and her opponent Jelena Jankovic to return to the WTA Championships finals.

Despite winning the first set 6-4, Williams looked fatigued throughout the course of the set. Jankovic took advantage of multiple errors from Williams to secure the second set.

Williams' energy level picked up in the third set. She secured an early break of serve and then raced out to a 5-1 lead. But Williams couldn't finish off Jankovic who forced the No. 1 seed to serve for the match twice.

Williams missed out on two earlier match points and saved a break point with and ace. A final smash from Williams on her third match point sealed the 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win.

Williams now faces Li Na in Sunday's finals.

A complete recap will be posted soon.
