Serena Williams gets bitter on Twitter in flap with Farmers Classic
By Nick Georgandis

Serena Williams and the people running the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles engaged in their own version of “The Biggest Loser” last weekend.
Williams, currently sitting out the US Open Series with her foot injury, had been out to the Farmers for some P.R. work earlier in the week, posing for photos with fellow American James Blake while sister Venus was signing copies of her new book, “Come to Win.”
But when Serena wanted complimentary tickets for the Farmers, officials told her they would be $100 per. Unless the Farmers was just really hard up for money, asking the best player in the world, and one of the most recognizable faces in women’s athletics period to cough up the dough for a ticket is one of the dumbest ideas around.
Serena’s response made the situation worse, and showcased serious lack of judgment on her part. Rather than laugh it off or suck it up, she headed for the Internet and blasted the Classic via her Twitter account.
In a five-minute span on Saturday, Serena Tweeted:
“Omg! ! The @farmersclassic tennis tournament in LA is charging me $100 a ticket... After I plugged them!!! Lol ill send a bill for my plug!”
“@farmersclassic = use @serenajwilliams than over charge her to see tennis! Lol. Anywho don't go if u r in LA”
“@farmersclassic = use @serenajwilliams than over charge her to see tennis! Lol. I would have paid been happy to $1000 If I did not plug them.”
There’s no two ways about it, the people at the Farmers are absolute morons for not giving her free tickets. The first day of Marketing 101 tells you that having celebrities at your event is a gold mine.
But Serena’s actions are worse because it makes her look like a whiny diva, which isn’t exactly what she needs less than a year after her rant at the US Open, not to mention her recent late-night out on the town photos while recovering from a foot injury that is keeping her out of tournaments like the Farmers.
Complaining about $100 ticket prices when she’s made $4.27 million in prize money alone this year could seriously turn off fans that scrape together their hard-earned money to buy her clothes, accessories, and hand bags, not to mention the cost of the tickets to see her play.
