Defending champion Serena Williams could have an early meeting against her older sister Venus Williams at this year's French Open.

French Open: Djokovic and Federer in Same Section

Both Williams sisters find themselves in the same section of the draw with each slated for a possible third round meeting. Serena will first face France's Alize Lim in the opening round. Venus, seeded No. 29 this year, will take on young Swiss star Belinda Bencic to start. If the Williams Sisters do meet, it would be the 25th meeting of their careers with the last one taking place in 2013 in the Charleston semifinals.

Also in this side of the draw is Maria Sharapova.

Though a finalist last year, Sharapova is seeded No. 7 this year and thus finds herself in the same quarter of the draw as Serena Williams. They may face each other in the quarterfinals, but Williams leads the overall head to head 16-2.

No. 2 seed Li Na may face No. 6 seed Jelena Jankovic should they advance all the way in their quarter. Also in this section is No. 10 seed Sara Errani, a former French Open finalist, who gets young American Madison Keys in round one.

The remaining sections could seed No. 3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska meet No. 8 seed Angelique Kerber in the last eight while No. 4 seed Simona Halep could square off versus No. 5 seed Petra Kvitova.

If all seeds hold, the projected semifinals would be Williams against Radwanska and Li versus Halep.

Opening round play at the second Grand Slam of the year starts on Sunday, May 25.
