(July 29, 2010) Bethanie Mattek-Sands brought a dose of flower power to the court in the former of the floral tattoo that adorns the inside of her right arm. The brilliant flash of color that comes like a flourish with every forehand Mattek-Sands strikes, isn't the only eye-catching element of the Stanford doubles draw.

Former World No. 1 Lindsay Davenport, fresh off earning World TeamTennis MVP honors, is back in action at the Bank of the West Classic at Stanford tonight partnering former World No. 1 doubles player Liezel Huber. Davenport and Huber take on the fourth-seeded Olga Govortsova, who starts her day playing Maria Sharapova not before 2:30 p.m. local time, and
Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva, who once knocked off Sharapova at Wimbledon.

That doubles match will follow the highly-anticipated singles clash between defending champion Marion Bartoli and former World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic.

Bidding to reach her third straight Stanford final, Bartoli has won 10 of her last 11 matches at the Bank of the West Classic. Ivanovic is 3-0 lifetime vs. Bartoli, including a 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(3) win at the 2005 Canadian Open and a  6-2, 6-4 victory in their last meeting at the 2008 Zurich event.

"The matches Ana and I have had in the past have been really, really close," said Bartoli after beating American Ashley Harkleroad, 6-1, 6-4, to raise her record to 19-11 on the season. "I'm definitely looking forward to it. I think this is great preparation for me if I want to do well at the US Open."

Wild card entrants into the doubles draw, Davenport and Huber dropped serve just once in defeating Michaella Krajicek and Melanie Oudin, 6-4, 6-2.

Mattek-Sands joinced forces with American veteran Meghann Shaughnessy in a tight 2-6, 7-6(1), 4-10 loss to the third-seeded team of Shahar Peer and Alisa Kleybanova.

Peer will face a double duel with Maria Kirilenko today.

The sixth-seeded Peer, who outlasted Daniela Hantuchova in a three-set first round win, faces Kirilenko in today's opening match on stadium court. The two women will face square off again in doubles with Peer and Kleybanova taking on Kirilenko and Azarenka.
Sharapova considered playing doubles with US Open semifinalist Yanina Wickmayer in a partnership of IMG clients, but ultimately they opted against it. Wickmayer played with Hantuchova and the duo went down to Azarenka and Kirilenko, 6-1, 7-5.
