(May 11, 2011) Samantha Stosur, Shahar Peer and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova advanced into the third round of the Internazionale BNL d’Italia WTA Premier tournament in Rome Wednesday.

Stosur, the sixth-seeded Australian, defeated Iveta Benesova 6-1 7-5. Stosur now has a 3-0 record against the Czech player, who has a 9-10 record in 2011.

She will take on Polona Hercog, a qualifier from Slovenia who upset Andrea Petkovic 6-4 6-3 in another second round match Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Shahar Peer defeated Alisa Kleybanova 6-3 7-5, and she will face Maria Sharapova in the fourth round. Sharapova has a 4-0 record against the 24-year-old Israeli, but the last time they played was in 2008 and none of those matches were on clay courts.

Daniela Hantuchova beat Italian Romina Oprandi 7-5 6-1, and will face the second-seeded Francesca Schiavone in their third round match.
