Townsend, who is currently ranked at a career-high 125 in the world, will play in her first US Open. Townsend made a splash this spring when she reached the third round at Roland Garros as a wild card. Min is currently ranked 106. She reached her first career semifinal in Bad Gastein earlier this summer.
Joining Townsend and Min as a main draw wild card recipient is 15-year-old Cici Bellis, who won the USTA’s 18 and under championships in San Diego to earn her entry.
Nicole Gibbs, world No. 141 and two-time NCAA champion, Danielle Collins, 2014 NCAA singles champion and Madison Brengle, former Wimbledon and Australian Open junior finalist, were also selected by the USTA.
Australia’s Jarmila Gajdosova and France’s Amandine Hesse will also receive wild cards.
