The United States and Serbia have never faced each other in Davis Cup play.  Last year the American squad defeated Switzerland 4-1 in the first-round, but lost against Croatia , failing to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2005.  In 2007 the U.S. team won its 32nd Davis Cup title with a 4-1 win against Russia .

Isner won his first ATP World Tour title in Auckland, New Zealand, in January, and became the second ranked American singles player when he reached the fourth round at the 2010 Australian Open. Querrey, World No. 22, will be making his second Davis Cup appearance this weekend after winning his second singles title at the LA Open and winning his first ATP World Tour doubles title in San Jose , Calif. , at the SAP Open with Mardy Fish.  The world’s top-ranked doubles players, twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan, continue to be the world’s most dominate pair, capturing their eighth Grand Slam doubles title at the 2010 Australian Open.

Unlike the United States , Serbia has a relatively short Davis Cup history, competing as Serbia & Montenegro from 2004-2006 and Yugoslavia from 1927-2003.  Last year Serbia lost to Spain 4-1 in the first round.  Serbia is captained by Bogdan Obradovic.
