Australia's Bernard Tomic finally admits that it's time for he and his father to part ways when it comes to their coaching relationship.

Speaking to Linda Pearce of The Age in a new interview, Tomic admitted that the recent turmoil involving his father, John Tomic, has likely cost him several months in terms of improving his ranking this season.

"He's obviously going to be there as my dad always, and it's just difficult with the incident that happened this year (and prompted the ban) till next year, May, and I can't afford to lose that five, six months. So I feel confident and in three or four weeks when I have time off and relax, obviously when that starts it will be very good for me," Tomic said.

Tomic's father is still serving a one year tournament ban after he assaulted his son's former hitting partner, Thomas Drouet, outside of a Madrid hotel earlier this year.

Tomic, who famously boasted he would be in the top 10 after he won the Sydney title back in January, is currently ranked No. 51 in the world. The young Australian said he is considering several people to be his new coach but won't make any final decisions until later this year.

Tomic lost his opening round match in Shanghai to France's Jeremy Chardy. It was the Australian's eighth opening round loss this season.
