Maria Kirilenko US Open 2011

Maria Kirilenko of Russia defeated 156th-ranked Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-4, 6-2 to reach the second round of the Guangzhou International Women’s Open in Guangzhou, China Tuesday.

Despite posting a routine win, Kirilenko was still broken three times. The Russian compensated for that by winning 58 percent of her returning points and breaking
Bondarenko’s serve six times.

Kirilenko moves on to face 112th-ranked Frenchwoman Iryna Bremond, who beat Mariya Koryttseva, another Ukrainian, 6-1, 6-3.

Second-seeded Jarmila Gajdasova of Australia joined the top seed in the second round after she dismissed 247th-ranked Han Xinyun of China 6-2, 6-1.

Third-seeded
Ksenia Pervak retired at 1-4 against Chan Yung-Jan of Taiwan because of a shoulder injury, while Tetiana Luzhanska upset Bojana Jovanovski, the fifth seed, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4).

The seventh and eighth seeds, Chanelle Scheepers and
Magdalena Rybarikova, also advanced after they outlasted Anastasia Sevastova and Jill Craybas in three-set marathons.
