Tsonga in Accident, Suffers Minor Injuries

By Chris Oddo

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (August 10, 2012) -- Rebounding from a grueling and emotionally taxing grass-court season is proving to be a difficult task for many of the tour's top pros.

Add Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to that list.

According to an AFP report, Tsonga received 8 stitches in his knee after an accident on Thursday evening (Matt Cronin's report at tennis.com lists the stitch count at 7, but either way the consensus is that Tsonga was cut).

Reportedly, Tsonga was injured when he ran into a fire hydrant in Toronto.

The Frenchman announced his withdrawal from next week’s Masters event in Cincinnati through his agent. According to the agent, Tsonga has been told to get ten days of rest, but his US Open is not in jeopardy.

Tsonga joins Rafael Nadal among the missing in action from one of the biggest events of the North American hard-court season. Andy Murray, who pulled out of Toronto with a knee injury, might also miss the event.

Tsonga, currently ranked No. 6 in the world, owns 37 wins and one title so far in 2012.
