Weather forces changes to the US Open semifinals and finals schedule (September 8, 2012) -- Mother Nature is playing a leading role in the US Open’s final weekend once again. With a severe weather warning issued for the New York area on Saturday, U.S. Open organizers were forced to postpone the second men’s semifinal along with the women’s final.

After the semifinal between Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer was suspended with Ferrer leading 5-2 and serving for the first set on Saturday, tournament organizers announced that Sunday’s schedule would begin with the completion of the match, followed by the women’s final later that afternoon.

Djokovic and Ferrer will resume their match at 11 A.M. Eastern time Sunday, with the women’s final between Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka to begin no earlier than 4:30 P.M. Eastern. Organizers also announced the movement of the women’s doubles final to Louis Armstrong Stadium. The women’s doubles final will begin at 1:30 P.M. Eastern.

The remainder of the men’s semifinal will be broadcast on ESPN 2, with CBS picking up the action at the start of the women’s final. The Women's doubles final will not be televised.

The changes necessitated the movement of the men’s singles final to Monday for the fifth consecutive year. The men’s final between Andy Murray and the winner of the Ferrer-Djokovic semifinal will begin at 4 P.M. Eastern time. The men's final will be televised by CBS.
