Stan Wawrinka is making the most of his first trip to the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, but the 28-year-old Swiss is still at the mercy of this evening's final Group A round-robin match, to be played between Rafael Nadal and Tomas Berdych.

Wawrinka came back from a difficult first set, in which he blew a 5-2 lead and eventually fell in the tiebreaker, to defeat David Ferrer, 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-1 on Thursday, increasing his chances of qualifying for Sunday's semifinals a great deal.

Now Wawrinka will have to sit and wait and become one of Rafael Nadal's biggest cheerleaders, because a win for Nadal will mean Wawrinka's safe passage into the semis.

Here are the scenarios of what could transpire in Group A:

If Nadal Wins, Nadal wins Group A and Wawrinka comes in Second.
If Berdych defeats Nadal in straight sets, Berdych wins Group A and Nadal comes in second.
If Berdych defeats Nadal in three sets, Nadal wins Group A and Berdych comes in second.

Wawrinka fought back to defeat Ferrer for the fifth time against seven losses, breaking Ferrer on all four break points he saw in the final two sets, while not surrendering any breaks himself.

"For sure, I'm going to be a big fan of Rafa," said Wawrinka. '"I did my job all week. I did the best I can, so now I'm just going to watch what is going to happen and I'll be really happy if Rafa wins tonight."
