Physical ailments have forced Serena and Venus out of Beijing.

(September 27, 2012) -- Serena Williams withdrew from next week's China Open due to flu-like symptoms, while her sister Venus has pulled out with back soreness, sources said. Williams confirmed rumors that she was ill on Twitter earlier this afternoon.

The China Open website is reporting that Serena will be replaced by Romina Oprandi in the draw.

Williams has played 57 matches in 2012, compiling a record of 53-4. In 2010 and 2011 combined, the fifteen-time Grand Slam champion only played 54 combined matches.
