Wimbledon 2012 Seeds Announced

Novak Djokovic - Maria Sharapova - 2012 Wimbledon Top Seeds

(June 20, 2012) -- Wimbledon organizers announced the seeds for the 2012 tournament, with Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova topping the lists for the singles draws.

The men's seeding system is a combination of ATP rankings and weighing the players' performance on grass; the weight of the latter helped boost the bracket placements for Feli Lopez, Marin Cilic, Andreas Seppi, Mikhail Youzhny, and Bernard Tomic.

The women's seeding stay true to the rankings unless the tournament committee decides to make any changes. This year they opted to leave everything as is, which left five-time Wimbledon ladies' champ Venus Williams and four-time Grand Slam champ Kim Clijsters -- currently on her farewell tour -- out of the top 32.

Wimbledon begins on Monday, June 25, 2012.
