Wordplay: Micaela Returns, Davydenko Doesn't Miss Rafa...

By Chris Oddo

Sara Errani French Open (January 6, 2013) -- Join us for a look back at the best quotes and tweets of the week that was...

1. He said: Nikolay Davydenko

"Me? No! I don’t think so much about that (Nadal’s injury). For sure he will come back for the clay court season. And then he will try to win everything he can. Nadal is Nadal. The fans may miss him but not the players."

Our Take: Davydenko is funny and also brutally honest. Can't fault him for that at all, nor can we fault him for being scared to death of playing Rafa again. Nobody on the tour misses seeing the name Nadal in their half of the draw, unless they are a wildcard looking for a chance to play on a showcourt.

2. She tweeted: Micaela Bryan (in reply to Caroline Wozniacki)

Our take: Micaela, are you really into "Oxygen" or are you just being nice to Caroline? C'mon Micaela, we are taking our cues from you...

3. He said: Gael Monfils

"I'm black so I sweat a lot."

Our take: I sweat a lot too, what color am I?

4. She Tweeted: Coco Vandeweghe

Our Take: Coco's funny and cool, but we think some people look just fine all pasty and white.

5. They said: Novak Djokovic's family

"We have made the most rational decision considering the circumstances."

Our take: It's a shame that Belgrade is losing the Serbia Open, as Djokovic's Family Sport Company said in this statement. After all that Serbia has done for tennis, the country certainly deserves its own home tournament.

6. He tweeted: Paul Annacone

Our Take: Paul, do you really think Roger is going to get on board with not believing in perfection? The man is perfection embodied.

7. He said: Grigor Dimitrov

"I mean, the years are rolling and you don’t want be stuck at a certain spot, so you got to try things until you actually find the right formula for it. I felt it was time for me to change and experience something new.”

Our Take: Dimitrov's choice to work with Magnus Norman's Good to Great Tennis Academy appears to be the right formula. Let's hope he sticks with it and continues to climb.

8. He said: Bernard Tomic

"I'm just happy that after training the last few months, this is all coming good. The training's paying off. It's a huge feeling to do this."

Our take: Bernard Tomic's performance at Hopman Cup has reminded us all of what we already knew: If you take a step back and track Tomic's progress over the last two years, Tomic's tank tour of late 2012 doesn't look like the catastrophe/ deal-breaker it's been made out to be. Expect Tomic to have a solid Australian summer.
