Made his Grand Slam debut in the qualifying rounds of the 2007 US Open, losing to Jesse Witten.  Debuted in Davis Cup play for Bazil a momth later, falling to Austria's Jurgen Melzer in straight sets. His main draw ATP debut came at Costa Do Sauipe in 2008. His first main draw win came at Buenos Aires in 2008, a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Werner Eschauer. Won three rounds of qualifiers at the 2008 French Open, then lost to No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the first round of the main draw. Reached the finals at Costa Do Sauipe in 2009, falling to Tommy Robredo in straight sets. Surprised the field by winning Gstaad in 2009, entering the field ranked 119th, the winning two qualifiers to reach the main draw - knocking off No. 24 Stanislas Wawrinka in the second round and No. 27 Igor Andreev in the semfiinals, before sweeping No. 51 Andreas Beck for the win. Improved 50 spots in the rankings from 119th to 69th with the title. Second career title came at Santiago in 2010, rallying past No. 11 Fernando Gonzalez in the semis and defeating No. 29 Juan Monaco, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 in the final. Reached the fourth round at Roland Garros in 2010 before losing to Nadal. Followed that with a third-round appearance at Wimbledon to reach No. 22 in the world. In 2011, reached the semifinals at Madrid, knocking off No. 4 Andy Murray in the third round and No. 7 Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals before losing in three sets to No. 2 Novak Djokovic. Won Gstaad for a second time in 2012, defeating No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic in three sets in the final.
