Bio
Currently ranked No. 19 in the world, American John Isner has one career ATP title.
He has been ranked as high as No. 28 in the world, first achieving that rank on July 5, 2010. His highest doubles ranking is No. 27, reached on May 17, 2010.
He turned pro in June of 2007 after four years at the University of Georgia. He started his career ranked No. 839, and ended 2007 ranked No. 106. He took a wild card at Washington and made it to the final before falling to No. 5 Andy Roddick, 4-6, (4)6-7. He made his Grand Slam debut at the US Open and made it to the third round before falling to eventual champion Roger Federer in four sets.
The big splash was followed by a down year in 2008, as he reached just two quarterfinals and finished the year ranked No. 144.
He took another giant leap forward in 2009, finishing the season ranked No. 34 and winning 27 matches. He reached the fourth round at Indian Wells, defeating No. 9 Gael Monfils and No. 25 Martin Safin. The day before he was scheduled to leave for the French Open, he was diagnosed with mononucleosis and would not practice for the next 40 days. He returned to reach the semifinals at Indianapolis, the quarterfinals in Los Angeles and the semifinals in Washington. He then faced Roddick in the third round of the US Open, firing 38 aces in a fifth set tie-break win.
Isner began 2010 by becoming the first American to win the Australian Open in 20 years. After the final, he donated $5,000 to the Red Cross for its effort in Haiti. He reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, beating Monfils in the third round before falling to Andy Murray in the fourth.
At Wimbledon, he teamed with France’s Nicolas Mahut to break every longevity record in Wimbledon and tennis history with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(7), 7-6(3), 70-68 win that took three days to finish. Among the records set were longest match: 11 hours, 5 minutes; Longest set: 8 hours, 11 minutes: Most games in a set: 138; Most games in a match: 183; Most aces by one player: 112. The marathon severely damaged Isner’s ability to compete further in the tournament, and he fell in straight sets to Thiemo de Bakker the following day.
It might have been worth the loss however, given Isner’s exposure after the record match. He read the Top 10 on the “David Letterman Show,” appeared on “Good Morning, America” and threw out the first pitch at a New York Yankees game.

Year-End Singles Rankings: 2005 – 954th; 2006 – 844th; 2007 – 106th; 2008 – 144th; 2009 – 34th.
