This is the first time the USA does not have a player in the top ten. The Madrid quarterfinal results are in. Rafael Nadal, Na Li, Julie Goerges, Victoria Azarenka, and first timer Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil are in the semifinals. Maria Sharapova rules Facebook with the most likes of any other female player- she is just being Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in likes.

Djokovic is gaining on Nadal for the World #1 ranking as well. How will the opportunities of the French Open affect his chances?

Several big ATP and WTA rankings have changed recently, including Mardy Fish and Maria Sharapova who are on the rise. Venus Williams dropped 10 spots after not defending her points, and furthermore has withdrawn from the French Open. Kim Clijsters, though not full fighting strength after her recent injuries, is back in the Roland Garros roster. Australian tennis veteran Ken Rosewall suffered an apparent stroke but is on the mend.

Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Samantha Stosur, and Vera Zvonareva face tough first round opponents and paths to the finals in the draws.  The Forbes Top 100 list included five tennis players: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Serena and Venus Williams but Lady Gaga prevailed. The pre-Roland Garros tournaments  have their finals set.

We had some close calls and some upsets, as Kim Clijsters fell to 20-year-old Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands and Maria Sharapova came back after being down 3-6, 1-4 to 17-year-old Caroline Garcia. On the men's side, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray won, while Marcos Baghdatis and Nikolay Davydenko were ousted by much lower-ranked competition.

Injured Fabio Fognini played a grueling 5-set match against Albert Montanes. Roger Federer broke records and Novak Djokovic is 41-0. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova upset Vera Zvonareva. Svetlana Kuznetsova, Francesca Schiavone, and Marion Bartoli moved to the Roland Garros quarterfinals. Andy Murray sustained an ankle injury in match against Michael Berrer making him iffy for the next round, Samantha Stosur and Caroline Wozniacki look forward to Wimbledon and grass courts.

James Waterson reports on today's highlights from day nine of the French Open. Novak Djokovic is the first man into the semifinals at Roland Garros becuase his would-be opponent in the quarterfinal, Fabio Fognini, withdrew because of a leg injury. Rafael Nadal and Robin Soderling will face each other for the third year in a row in the quarterfinals, Maria Sharapova came back from a deficit in both sets to beat Agnieska Radwanska, and Andy Murray and Viktor Troicki will finish their fourth-round match tomorrow.

Lauren Lynch reports the latest results from the French Open. Daniel Koellerer was banned from tennis for life after being caught fixing matches. Maria Sharapova starts a new project by selling candy with Jeff Rubin under the name Sugarpova.  Roger Federer defeated Gael Monfils to play Novak Djokovic. Andy Murray moves on the semifinals. Marion Bartoli is the first Frenchwoman in six years in the semifinals where she will meet defending champion Francesca Schiavone. Look forward to Nadal vs. Soderling, Murray vs. Chela, Azarenka vs. Li Na, and Sharapova vs. Petkovic tomorrow.
