Thomas Muster has announced his comeback into the ATP tour. Muster is now 42 and hasn’t played a professional tennis match in 11 years. He’s probably a little over his prime…
Muster announced last week that he’s accepted a wild card match into the ATP tour on June 28 at Braunschweig, Germany.
Who is Thomas Muster? Not many people really know because of his short time as world’s number 1 in 1996. Muster did not spend long at the top rank, only about six weeks. He did win the French Open in 1995. His final pro match was during the French Open in 1999, where he lost the first round.
Even though he hasn’t played in 11 years, Muster claims that he never really retired. Yeah right.
"I never formally retired, as I said after that match I would go on a holiday," Muster said. "So now I am just returning from my holiday."
We’ll just have to see how the 42 year old does against 20 and 30 year old tennis players who are just now getting into the peak of their game. I hope he practiced and trained during his 11 year “holiday.”
