Flipkens Out, Venus in US Open Main Draw

Venus Williams will be back in the US Open main draw next week.

Belgian Kirsten Flipkens withdrew from the US Open today as she continues recovery from a left ankle injury.

Flipkens' departure moves 41-year-old Venus Williams into the US Open main draw where she will make a record-extending 23rd US Open main-draw appearance.

The US Open begins next Monday August 30th.

Last week, Venus received a wild card into the Flushing Meadows major, but won't need it now. Alycia Parks has been grated a US Open main-draw wild card.

It will be Venus Williams' 91st Grand Slam main-draw appearance. Two-time US Open champion Venus made the Flushing Meadows final in her 1997 US Open debut.
