The draw for the year’s first 1000-level event, the Qatar Total Energies Open, was released on Friday, with World No.1 Iga Swiatek as the top seed. The stacked 56-player field features byes for the top eight seeds.

Odds n Ends

Naomi Osaka has drawn a rematch with Caroline Garcia, the woman who took her out in the Australian Open, while Emma Raducanu will face Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina in the first round.

Raducanu, also on the comeback trail, is 3-3 on the season, and is coming off a loss to Ons Jabeur in the round of 16 at Abu Dhabi.

Osaka is 1-3 on the season, with losses to Karolina Pliskova (Brisbane), Garcia (Australian Open) and Danielle Collins (Abu Dhabi).

World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka has withdrawn from Doha for the second consecutive year.

Swiatek is a two-time defending champion in Doha – she rides an eight-match Doha winning streak into the tournament, having won her last 15 sets at the event. Second-seeded Coco Gauff has reached at least the semifinals in her past six tournaments, while eighth-seeded Jelena Ostapenko is the tour’s title leader in 2024 with two.
