We already posted about the rave reviews that Maria Sharapova was getting for her dignified runner-up speech, but Serena Williams may have once again outdone the Russian when she took the podium for her champion’s speech.

The 19-time Grand Slam champion begins her speech by telling a fan she loves him back, then proceeds to give a heartfelt, soulful and passionate speech. After a fantastic final, Williams and Sharapova continued to exude class and sportsmanship, while at the same time keeping things down to earth and humorous. Fans who stuck around to watch the awards ceremony, either in person or on TV, definitely came away feeling good about women’s tennis.
