Tiley: No Change to AO Format

Men will still go the distance in Melbourne.

Australian Open CEO Craig Tiley announced the AO will retain Grand Slam tradition of best-of-five-set men's matches.

Some players had floated the idea of shortening first-week AO matches to best-of-three sets given the fact 72 players are serving hard quarantine in Melbourne, which prevents them from leaving their hotel rooms to practice.

Tiley told Nine Network the AO match format will not change.

"We are a Grand Slam tournament," Tiley told Nine Network. "The rule is three winning sets for men and two winning sets for women. We will not lose sight of it."
