Paula Badosa and Ajla Tomljanovic have joined the growing list of players forced out of this year’s Australian Open due to injury or other reasons (also see: Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka, Marin Cilic, Venus Williams).

Badosa withdraw from her semifinal earlier this week at Adelaide with a right thigh issue, that has apparently turned out to be worse than expected.

“Bad news… During the quarterfinal match in Adelaide, I hurt myself and after receiving the reults I will have to be out a few weeks,” Badosa wrote on Twitter. “Sad to miss Australian Open this year, really going to miss it. I will do everything I can to return as soon as possible.”

The 11th-ranked Spaniard was drawn to face American Caty McNally.

Tomljanovic has been on the sidelines since suffering an injury at United Cup. She was unable to recover in time to play in Melbourne. The Aussie had to pull out with a knee injury.

Laura Pigossi and Leolia Jeanjean will take their places in the draw as lucky losers.
