Zverev to Join Thiem and Fognini at Hamburg

Alexander Zverev is heading back to a special venue next week–the place where it all started. The German has accepted a wild card and will join a star-studded field at the German Tennis Open in Hamburg for the first time since 2016.

Zverev first appeared at Hamburg in 2014, and he made big waves when as a 17-year-old he played his way into his first ATP semi-final before falling to David Ferrer. Hamburg was the site of Zverev’s first career ATP-level win and his first Top 20 win (over then World No.19 Mikhail Youzhny). The German, currently ranked and owning a 25-14 record on the season, will join Dominic Thiem and Fabio Fognini (2013 champion) in the draw. In total, there are eight players that have already claimed a title on clay in 2019 in the draw. The draw will be held on Saturday at 1PM in Hamburg. ]]>
