Wawrinka Withdraws From Wimbledon


Stan Wawrinka's continued recovery from foot surgery has forced him to step out of Wimbledon.

The 36-year-old Swiss underwent left foot surgery in March and continues to rehab his foot.

Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam trophy missing from the three-time Grand Slam champion's trophy collection.

Wawrinka, who defeated Rafael Nadal to win the 2014 Australian Open champion, defeated Novak Djokovic in both the 2015 Roland Garros title match and the 2016 US Open final.

The 24th-ranked Wawrinka has not played a match since bowing to Lloyd Harris in his Doha opener last March.

Wawrinka has not yet announced when he aims to return to the pro circuit.
