Laura Robson Retires

Laura Robson has confirmed her retirement.

The 28-year-old Briton closes the curtain on a career that saw her capture the Wimbledon girls' title at age 14 and partner Andy Murray to the Olympic siler mixed doubles medal before a raucous home crowd at the London Olympic Games.

The left-handed Robson, who reached the 2012 Guangzhou final, attained a career-high rank of No. 27 in July, 2013.

Injuries and surgeries short-circuited Robson's career. Despite all the pain, she reached the round of 16 at the 2012 US Open and the 2013 Wimbledon.

A 2014 wrist surgery and a trio of hip surgeries ultimately derailed Robson's career.

"I went through every possibility of rehab and of surgery," Robson told BBC Sport. "I had another hip surgery and probably did the best rehab block of my life
I went to all the best specialists and had some incredible people that I was working with just to get me back on courtand then the second time I hit, I just knew.

"It feels weird to say out loud, but I'm done, I'm retired. I've sort of known that for a while because of what I was told by the doctors last year, but I think it just took me so long to say it to myself, which is why it took me so long to say it officially."
